Turning a Lot of Guns Into a Few Purpose-Driven Firearms

02/21/2024

What does your gun portfolio look like? A few Jack-of-All-Trades guns that fill multiple roles, but none of which exceed in any one area? Are you making do because you’re unsure if there’s a better option that could fill the needs you can’t quite define?

We had a client come into the shop recently with a problem. Looking for a coyote gun to protect his land and stock, the gentleman pulls a rifle out of his case and explains what he wants. “To reach out farther and be more accurate.”

Simple enough, except for the rifle; an original, pre-ban Colt AR-15 Match Target chambered in 7.62x39. Retro carry-handle upper, plastic M4 Carbine handguard, even a third-hole deletion kit. This is not a common firearm, it’s a collector’s dream gun.

After explaining the gem he already had with his Colt, the client mentioned he has dozens of classic firearms, all in practically mint condition, most of which he had never even fired himself.

  • - A flawless 1954 Russian-made Tula SKS-45, even had the USSR Star Hammer Sickle stamp on the receiver.
  • - ‘50s era Colt Special Police in .38 Special. Only 6 rounds were sent through the barrel in four decades.
  • - A 20-gauge Browning Gold Hunter used for one hunting season, then locked into the safe.
  • - 1971 Winchester 94 in 30-30 with almost perfect bluing on the receiver and barrel.

He wasn’t attached to many of them, so we asked: What if we turn a lot of guns you like into a few custom guns you love?

Our new client-turned-friend was happy to see that the recommendations he had come to see us for were not only warranted, but that we could deliver far more than he had originally hoped for. He quickly gave us free reign to sell parts of his incredible collection to finance a GSO-15 designed and hand-built to fill his needs exactly.

He quickly and completely financed a $5500 rifle including optic, high-end bipod, and suppressor, and could have walked away with over a grand if he wanted to. He instead chose to keep a credit at GSO to put towards additional future guns he will love.

How would you handle a situation like that? If you have a few guns that don’t sit well in any one role, then come see us and have a conversation about what you wish you really had.
